25/09/2006 11:49:00 AM

At the 2006 South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards (SASEA 2006), SERIC's nomination was announced as the winning entry in the Land Development and Planning category.

The independently-judged South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards recognise outstanding achievements, and are closely supported by the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI), and the Australian Spatial Information Business Association (ASIBA).

SERIC was recognised for its project 'Future Wood Flows Across the Green Triangle Region', a significant study which involved gathering plantation harvest data and future trucking routes from fourteen participating forest growers in the Green Triangle region. SERIC also innovated a unique spatial methodology to model and visualise the movement of future timber harvest volumes across the regions roads.

The results of the project have been utilised for various purposes by organisations such as the Green Triangle Regional Plantation Committee, the Limestone Coast regional Development Board, and both Local and State Government agencies on both sides of the border.

The SASEA Judging Panel is comprised of industry peers, authorities, associates and advisors who provide expert, objective and independent opinions on the merits of the award entries and look for projects or innovative technical solutions that achieve above average outcomes in relation to the award criteria.

Preceding the awards announcement a keynote address was delivered by Mr Dennis Mutton, Presiding Member of the NRM Council. Dennis made direct reference to the valuable contribution SERIC was making to assist in the sharing and flow of information in the region.

Winning such a prestigious state award shows the level of excellence available in the region, and that SERIC is amongst the forefront of the spatial industry in terms of the quality and innovation of the solutions it is providing to its partners.
