South East Digital Elevation Model Launch

The launch of the South East Regional Digital Model on Wednesday February 24, provided an opportunity for invited guests to celebrate what has been a great example of organizations cooperating and combining resources to acquire a very significant resource for the region.

A feature of the launch by Member for Mount Gambier, Rory McEwen, was the presentation from the consortium members, illustrating ways in which they were utilizing the DEM for their particular projects and purposes. Geoff Wood from DWLBC  described the work he and Chris Medlin had undertaken on the Regional Flows program, Don McGuire from Forestry SA provided an expansive view of the uses of LiDAR and Digital Terrain models in forestry operations,with other presentations from Paul O’Connor, DWLC, on Depth to Water Modelling and David Hart, DEH, on a variety of projects undertaken by that organization. Rohan Potter, from AAM, previously AAMHatch, set the scene with an excellent outline of the LiDAR technology and aspects of the South East project, the largest undertaking of its type in Australia at the time.
